What Sort Of Wood Should I Use For My Iron Bed Slats ?

I have a King Sized Iron bed, which consists of two metal L-shaped rails running down the sides, each roughly 1 inch wide, which came with several wooden slats to rest between them.

The mattress I bought was a pocket-sprung mattress (to avoid back problems from an old, spring one). This means direct pressure on the mattress passes through to the slat(s) directly below (rather than spreading out my weight across the slats). So if myself and my partner lean too heavily on the same slat(s) they bend too much and “pop” through the frame. This happens far too easily and too often, just turning onto my side must be done with care !

This has been getting worse over time. Could this be because I need to buy new slats ? Or can I get more solid slats ? I have been to a lumber merchant to ask about “a more sturdy, denser” type of wood, but they looked at me as if I was mad ! Basically I need wood slat that can support two people across the 6 foot width of my bed.
Please help me get more sleep !

Best Way To Paint A Black Iron Bed Red?

Give it a good cleaning so there isn’t any dust or gunk on it to keep the paint from sticking. Rust-O-leum spray enamel paint works really well and holds up. Even though it’s a bed and will be inside, paint for outside use is extra durable to be weather resistant.

Spray paint gives you a smoother overall coat, but you will find that it won’t get EVERYWHERE, so you may have to get the tiny crevises with a brush. You get a cleaner result if you do the brush work first, then spray.

What Other Bedroom Furniture Goes With An Iron Bed?

I’m thinking about getting a wood or iron bed for my new room. for the wood, i can find lots of separate bedroom pieces (chest, night stand, dresser, etc) that will match the wood bed. but I’m not sure what pieces would match an iron bed… any suggestions? thank you!

Still Working On Iron Bed Frame?

I have been doing the sanding with coarse to fine steel wool. It seems fairly smooth. Question is how do I “polish/buff” to make sure all of the small grit is off before I paint? Using a “rustoleum” oil based, do I need to fine sand between coats? Any other hints would be appreciated, email me at sajaru316@yahoo.com thanks
